This concept piece of jewellery was created to convey the wears personality. I started looking at the ways jewellery communicates both with the wearer and the outer world around them, this evolved into how not only the jewellery molds around the body but also how it may restrict movement or allow for free expression. I wanted my piece to incorporate all this in a narrative. I focused on an aspect of my personality that has changed and grown on this course and that aspect was confidence. Confidence can be both restrictive and liberating holding us back or pushing us forward. As you look at this piece you can see that the cage like a barrier around the hand restricting the hand from free movement. As a hand shake is normally the first greeting we give to someone we meet this is where someone with little confidence would be most nervous and shy. As the jewellery continues up the hand arm it opens out becoming bolder and the strands that once formed the cage now transform into expressions of the wears new found confidence with sharp bold shapes freeing up the rest of the arm to more movement then the hand.
