Bonnie
Marie Smith confesses that her ceramic work is, "inspired and informed by
myth, dreams, and symbols," and each one of her pieces seems to be a
signifier of something larger. Many of her objects have a narrative behind
them, but the art works are slippery objects. Viewing them while trying to
figure out the story is like trying to remember a dream. Each one of her
artworks have a surreal, as well as an abstract feel to them.
Her
artworks often explore the themes of home, childhood, loss, nature, and the
feminine experience. In these small sculptures, she works intuitively to reveal
something of the inner world of each figure. Each piece is made of fired
earthenware, or porcelain clay with applied glazes, stains, paints, and the
occasional found object.
