Primary Researching First 4th March
With it being a half day, I could sort out my primary research. I started with researching and contacting Jenni Wilson. I'm hoping to get some insight into how jewellery designers develop new ideas and how they translate into the finished piece. As well, I want her view on what personalised jewellery has on offer to the public right now.
I am also interested to know what materials she uses. This is something that I am now thinking about as the materials make a big difference on the finished jewellery. Finally, what Jenni Wilson is hoping to create in the future? Will it be more customised jewellery or something completely different?
When my research had finished I could then look up where I could obtain some primary research. Having done some of my research on charm bracelets I wanted to follow that up with some final primary research. What was the best seller? How they help the customer to pick their charms? If a lot of charms are sold to people to give other people?
I went to three shops that sold charm bracelets; H. Samuel, Thomas Sabo, and Pandora. I asked them many different questions. All seem to say that a lot of charms are sold for occasions and milestones, as well as gifts. This seems to match up with my survey I did. This makes the jewellery more about the person, not only being about their taste and personality, but also adds memories for the wearer to the bracelet, and that makes it truly unique.
I'm hoping to be able to go and see some other shops that work more in bespoke jewellery and the one to one side with the customer. I want to learn how the designer brings out the personality of the customer and how they work to make this one off piece.
