Feedback and Drawing 9th March
It's a Monday and I can continue with my FMP. It's good to research how jewellery designers draw their designs, from their use of paper to the colours they use. It's all important things to know in order to translate my ideas into 2D.
It seems that a lot of jewellery designers work on coloured paper, be it a light gray to dark brown, or even black. This seems to be because of the contrast with colour. Darker paper makes the colour appear more vibrant. This is something I found when I was using brown paper, not only the colours seem brighter, but the white highlights stand out more because they're not competing with the white of the paper.
The other hurdle I have to overcome is how to draw gems and glass. I tried to draw a ring with a diamond on it. This was difficult because of the way they are cut and the shine on them. I'll have to look up how to properly draw and colour gems. How to colour different metals would be useful too.
The rest of the day was devoted to research and sketchbook work, (sticking and cutting). The research was looking at how photographers capture a persons personality. This has been a difficulty for artists who paint portraits. With new technologies, one would think that this would become easier, but although the accuracy of how the person looks is better, the personality could still be lost. It takes skill to truly bring this across in both photography and painting.
