Trip To The Jewellery Quarter 8th
April
With the holidays coming to the end,
I wanted to get some last research done before I go back and get stuck into
making the jewellery. With that in mind I have always wanted to go to the Jewellery Quarter Museum
and now would be a great time to have a day out to see that and maybe do some
other research if I have time. Once I had arrived at the jewellery quarter, I
headed straight to the Museum so that I could have time to walk round and take
photos after the guided tour.
With the museum being part of an
old working jewellery factory, a lot of the old tools and machines were still
there and working. What was also interesting to see was that there was a lot of
old books and packaging that was left behind. With everything almost exactly
the way it was when it was shut down it was interesting to see that the factory
was more 'handmade' than machine made, giving the jewellery a more custom feel.
Today designers have to offer this custom handmade feel in order to compete
with the mass made jewellery that is a lot cheaper and easier to get.
After the tour and a look round the
Jewellery Museum it was soon time to go home, but
before I set home, I managed to walk past a tattoo studio called Off Key
studio. I thought that it would be a good idea to go and ask them a couple of
questions. As tattoos are a very personal way to show the world your
personality and taste, I wanted to see if they offered any custom designs and
how they go about it.
Walking into the place I was pleased
to find that they not only were happy to talk about their business, but let me
take photos too. Off Key Studios was not only run by welcoming and friendly
people, but also the studio was very professional, clean and visually pleasing
with the designs framed on the walls showing off the artists talent.
Once I had finished interviewing them,
and taking photos of Off Key Studios, it was time to go home. I managed to have
a good day of research and got some good information. Now I have to get back to
college and finish my project.
